Year 12 French students teaching at Holy Rood Primary SchoolEarlier this term our Year 12 French students were once again invited to one of our partner primary schools - Holy Rood. The Year 12 students were able to live our school mission statement ‘to inspire others.' They were very impressed by the eagerness of the primary school children to take part, and noticed how proud they were to have learnt some French in the sessions. Year 12s, many of whom were out of their comfort zone, used a variety of ways to engage the younger students, such as singing songs and encouraging the students to use actions with the songs. The feedback from Holy Rood was also positive. Mrs Hehir praised our students and mentioned how confident our Year 12s were when speaking in front of the children, displaying a lot of enthusiasm. Bravo, tout le monde! Mrs Mangion – MFL Department

MFL Trip to NormandyOur French trip began at 6:00pm on a Thursday. After a long journey, we arrived in Normandy where we made our way to the American Cemetery which was very interesting. Once at the Château, we had lunch and were only allowed to speak French from then on - which improved our French a lot! Whilst we were there, we did different activities such as aeroball, archery and bread-making, forcing us to speak French. One evening we had a French quiz and a French food evening where we had to dress up and eat French food like snails - a good experience! Another evening we had a treasure hunt and we had to retrieve the items on a list - all in French. The workers would not talk to you in English, because they didn’t understand what we were saying. We had many trips out, such as visiting the town of Granville, where we had to fill out our journals and we also experienced a French protest march! We also got to speak to locals. We had a day out where we went to Mont St Michel which was tiring because there were so many stairs, but when we got up to the top, it was all worth it. To finish the trip off, we went to a Crêperie, to get a real, authentic French experience in a restaurant. We are happy that we went on this trip because it has benefited our French and made things easier in French lessons. Geography Field TripFrom Monday 23rd January to Wednesday 25th January, our A level geographers travelled to the Field Studies Centre at Juniper Hall, a stone’s throw from beautiful Box Hill in Surrey. Over the three days of fieldwork, the specialist tutors helped the students to explore some fieldwork techniques associated with the urban, water and carbon topics that are studied during the A level course. This will be invaluable to the students as they look to create their own geographical question for their coursework. Thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and for their impeccable behaviour throughout the trip, they were a credit to the school!

The London Art FairOn Friday 20 th January the Art department took 40 Year 11 and 12 Art students to The London Art Fair at the Business Design centre in Islington. The trip is designed to kickstart the students GCSE and A level exam projects by exposing them to the huge variety of Artists whose work is exhibited at the exhibition. This year The London Art Fair welcomed 111 exhibitors from all over the world, showing the work of contemporary Artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Hockney, Henry Moore, Grayson Perry,Banksy and many, many more. The students enjoyed engaging with the works as well as talking to the artists and curators who helped to create such a vibrant atmosphere. The student’s behaviour was impeccable and they were an absolute delight to take. Mrs Henderson Art department. Feedback from some of the students who attended: “It was a fun and exciting day trip” “The variation of art allowed us to explore even more possibilities for our final pieces. The experts there made interesting observations on the Art, and the freedom we were given at the gallery made the experience much more enjoyable.” “I found Artists pieces there that I will use to help my own work” “I really liked seeing so many different styles of Art in one place” “Motivating for my own work”

Religious Education & History - G2G talkReligious Education and History- Year 9 G2G talk (generation to generation) Pupils who have shown an incredible effort in Religious Education and History were selected to receive a reward for their dedication. Pupils were given the opportunity to hear about the story of a woman's family who survived the Holocaust and how they were able to survive. Pupils were mesmerised as she explained about the amount of deceit and betrayal that her family had endured but also heard about the bravery of others to stand up against such clear persecution and were willing to sacrifice their safety in order to do what is right and stand for justice, truly following our ethos ‘Love Christ, Inspire others’. It was such a pleasure to offer this opportunity to the pupils as a reward and we hope they consider studying our subjects at A-Level as they are already showing such an incredible work ethic. Keep up the work and who knows who knows what the next reward will be....

Champions of Religious EducationChampions of Religious Education It has been my absolute pleasure to award students across the school as ‘Champions of Religious Education’. They have shown their teachers a clear passion for the subject and produced some outstanding work. They really should be so proud of themselves, they have shown an outstanding work ethic and set exceptionally high standards for themselves. Pushing themselves to reach their full potential which is something we should all aspire to do. “Do not neglect the gift you have” 1 Timothy 4:14. We look forward to seeing who will be the next ‘Champions of Religious Education’. Keep up the excellent work! Ms Gaughan
