Extra Curricular, Trips & Activities

We are very proud of the extra curricular programmed we offer our pupils at St Joan's. All students are encouraged to develop their personal interests through the many extra-curricular activities available.  There are a variety of lunch-hour and after-school clubs and activities for those interested.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

The Bronze Level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is introduced to students during the Autumn Term of Year 10. Many progress to the Silver and Gold Levels.

Music

The Music Department offers a variety of opportunities for every student to develop their individual and group musical skills. Students are encouraged to play a musical instrument, both for personal enjoyment and to help develop self-discipline. Lessons are available on the piano, keyboard, recorder, drum kit, guitar, voice and the normal orchestral instruments, e.g. strings, woodwind and brass. Group activities include the school Orchestra and choir. There are numerous choral activities including Summer and Winter concerts.

Looking back…

A massive well done to all pupils who participated in our annual end of year mass this Summer.
Despite the last-minute location change, everyone did a fantastic job.

For those pupils who attended rehearsals but could not take part in the new (tight!) location, well done.
Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Looking forward…
- A busy term of Christmas concert preparations awaits us! 
- As per usual, our festive music playlists start a little earlier than average to make sure we are performance-ready…
- A slight change in club listings for this term: our ukulele group is now open to all year groups (previously just KS3).

We hope to welcome some new (and familiar!) additions to our group, now happening after school on Wednesdays, 15:30-16:00.

Expeditions, Outings and Exchanges

Many expeditions, field study trips and outings take place during school time, in the evening, at weekends and during the holidays and they form a natural extension to the school curriculum. Outings are arranged to the theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, art galleries, museums, places of worship, stately homes, castles, sporting events, residential study centres, lectures, demonstrations, conferences and exhibitions. The MFL Department organises expeditions to Italy and France while the Art and Design Department takes students to art galleries. Year 8 have the opportunity to go on a five-day residential.

Physical Education and Sport

Over 60% of our students participate in a full sporting programme which operates during the lunch hour and after school. Various clubs offer specialist coaching for those students interested in athletics, dance, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rounders, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby, swimming, tennis and trampolining.
