Admissions

ADMISSIONS

The school welcomes applications from parents and carers who wish their son or daughter to attend St Joan of Arc Catholic School.

The students of St Joan of Arc Catholic School are our greatest ambassadors and we are very proud of them. We therefore encourage all prospective students and their families to visit us so that you can meet our students and see this for yourself.

The school holds an open evening and open morning each October for Year 7 entry and in November for our Sixth Form. These events provide prospective students and their parents the opportunity to find out more about the school.

We welcome all enquiries. If you are unable to visit us on one of our Open Events we will arrange for a senior student to give you a personal tour of the school.

We invite all new students to an induction and orientation day in July in preparation for their admission in September. For the new Year 7 parents, there is an induction evening when you will meet your child’s form tutor and ask any questions you may still have about St Joan’s.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster has also produced guidance on applying for a Diocesan Catholic School. See the document 'Choosing a Catholic school'

If there are any queries regarding the application process, either email admissions@joa.herts.sch.uk or call on 01923 587970 to speak with the Admissions Administrator.

Admissions 2022-2023 with Important SIF Information

The school is part of the Catholic Diocese of Westminster and it is the Governors’ intention that maintaining the distinctive Catholic ethos of the school will always be their top priority. As a Catholic school, we aim to provide a Catholic education for all our pupils. At a Catholic school, Catholic doctrine and practice permeate every aspect of the school’s activity. It is essential that the Catholic character of the school’s education be fully supported by all families in the school. All applicants are therefore expected to give their full, unreserved and positive support for the aims and ethos of the school.

Please see the full admissions policy and SIF Form below

IMPORTANT ADMISSION APPLICATION INFORMATION

4.00pm on Thursday 21st October 2021 (provisional dates).

Please note that this date does not affect any applications being sent by post to the school during the half-term break.

School Admission Consultation for 2023/24

SEE BELOW FOR 2023/24 Consultation Documents

St Joan of Arc Catholic School is consulting on the proposed admissions arrangements for the school year 2023/24 and is seeking responses from parents/carers, schools and community groups.

The proposed changes are to remove Criterion 2 and the need to supply a Certificate of Catholic Practice:

The removal of Criterion 2 Baptised Catholic Children with a Certificate of Catholic Practice (read note 2b).

Note 2b) Applicants wishing to be considered under Criterion 2 must obtain a Certificate of Catholic Practice.  ‘Certificate of Catholic Practice’ means a certificate issued by the family’s parish priest (or the priest in charge of the church where the family attends Mass) in the form laid down by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It will be issued if the priest is satisfied that at least one Catholic parent or carer (along with the child, if he or she is over seven years old) have (except when it was impossible to do so) attended Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation for at least five years (or, in the case of the child, since the age of seven, if shorter). It will also be issued when the practice has been continuous since being received into the Church if that occurred less than five years ago. It is expected that most Certificates will be issued on the basis of attendance. A Certificate may also be issued by the priest when attendance is interrupted by exceptional circumstances which excuse from the obligation to attend on that occasion or occasions. Further details of these circumstances can be found in the guidance issued to priests http://rcdow.org.uk/education/governors/admissions/

The consultation period runs from 01/11/2021 – 12/12/2021. Please send your comments regarding the proposals to the school directly at head@joa.herts.sch.uk

All proposed arrangements will also be published on the Hertfordshire County Council website from 01/11/2021, at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions 2023
